The Brutus Stool by 101 Copenhagen is a sculptural, multi-purpose piece inspired by the Brutalist architecture of the mid-20th century and traditional Japanese wooden stools. Designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen & Tommy Hyldahl, it has a curved seat resting on the distinctive Brutus cross legs, giving the stool a strong architectural presence and a surprisingly comfortable sit.

At Numa Home, we see Brutus as both extra seating and a small side table – perfect next to a sofa, in a reading corner, bedroom or hallway, as well as boutique and hotel projects in the Netherlands and Turkey.

The collection comes in two material families:

– Fiber concrete in the colours Coffee and Bone White, cast in lightweight fibre concrete and hand-painted to create a textured, tactile surface. The concrete gives a mineral, stone-like expression while remaining light enough to move around easily.

– Solid oak in Natural Oak and Coffee Black Oak, made from FSC-certified American Red Oak, handcrafted with precise joinery. The natural finish lets the grain stand out, while the darker Coffee Black Oak adds depth and warmth.

The strong silhouette of Brutus is softened by the rounded seat and edges, creating a balance between hard and soft, raw and refined. The result is a timeless design stool that works beautifully in calm, natural interiors.

Care – fibre concrete: use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth; do not use household cleaners containing acid; not frost-proof; avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures or high humidity.

Care – oak: clean with a soft dry cloth and, when needed, a lightly damp cloth with mild soap; dry immediately; avoid strong cleaning agents and standing moisture to protect the varnish.
Material

Fiber concrete – Coffee & Bone White
The Coffee and Bone White versions are made from lightweight fibre concrete. Each stool is cast and then hand-painted to create a layered, textured surface. Small nuances and tiny irregularities are part of the design and give every piece a unique character. The surface is coated for strength, but we always recommend using felt pads and avoiding sharp objects and aggressive cleaning products.

Solid oak – Natural Oak & Coffee Black Oak
The oak versions are crafted from FSC-certified American Red Oak. Precise joinery and a varnished finish highlight the grain while keeping the surface protected. Natural Oak celebrates the light, warm colour of the wood, while Coffee Black Oak brings a deeper, richer tone. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and quick cleaning of spills will maintain the finish; avoid cleaners containing acid and prolonged moisture.

Delivery time
The Brutus Coffee Table is ordered specially for you from 101 Copenhagen’s European stock. When in stock, delivery within the Netherlands is usually around 5–10 working days after your order. For Belgium, Germany and the rest of the EU, timing is similar.
