The Tribal Vase, Big by 101 Copenhagen is a sculptural ceramic vase that feels more like an art object than a traditional vase. Designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen & Tommy Hyldahl, the piece is inspired by the expressive forms of tribal masks – with a strong graphic face and a narrow opening at the top.

At Numa Home, we love Tribal for the way it brings character to a room with very simple means. You can place a single branch or a few flowers in the slim neck, or leave it empty as a standalone object on a console, bookshelf or dining table. The collection comes in calm, earthy glazes that work beautifully with natural stone, wood, and textiles in modern Dutch and Turkish interiors.

Each vase is hand-glazed, so colour and texture vary slightly from piece to piece – this is part of the charm and gives Tribal its organic, Wabi-Sabi feeling. The vase is made of ceramic and is not completely waterproof; a clear bag for fresh flowers is recommended.

Material

Ceramic, hand-glazed. Each vase is made from fine clay, cast in a mould and burned in the kiln. Afterwards, the surface is hand-painted several times to create a soft, brushed texture in natural, faded earth tones. Because the glaze is applied by hand, colour and structure will vary slightly from piece to piece – this gives the Tribal collection its organic, Wabi-Sabi look. The vase is not fully waterproof; for fresh flowers, we recommend using the included inner bag or a separate glass insert.
