SWITCH | MATA Recessed
Description
The MATA Recessed Switch is part of a universal line of plastered switches created in collaboration between Sumum and Belgian design studio STUDIO STRAF. Grown from a shared love for craft, geometry and pure materials, MATA lets the switch disappear into the wall finish while still reading as a small, precise piece of architecture.
The word “MATA” comes from Māori, where it refers to a bullet or rounded form – a direct reference to the delicately shaped push buttons. These refined “bullet” buttons are arranged in strict geometric compositions, following sacred proportions and a calm, minimalist language that fits seamlessly in contemporary interiors.
In the recessed version, MATA is built into the wall with a build-in kit so the front plate can be skimmed, plastered or finished in the same material as the surrounding surface – from lime plaster and microcement to stone cladding or timber panelling. The result is a switch that practices the art of camouflage: it becomes part of the wall, quietly highlighting the texture and colour instead of interrupting it.
At Numa Home, we recommend the MATA Recessed Switch for projects where wall finishes are key: plaster-rich Dutch townhouses, minimal concrete homes, calm Turkish villas, boutique hotels and galleries. It brings a tactile, handcrafted feeling to the wall while staying completely in line with the architecture.

Production & lead times
Sumum products are made to order in Belgium. Delivery happens in two stages:
First delivery – internal mechanisms
– Lead time: ≈ 4–6 weeks
– The electrician can already mount and wire these in the wall or panel.
– As soon as they are installed, the installation is fully functional.
Second delivery – brass cover plates
– Lead time: ≈ 8–12 weeks
– The solid brass plates are clicked onto the mechanisms on site once all finishing works are done.
Two-stage delivery
This two-stage approach keeps the project moving: first the technical installation, later the finished brass plates once painting and wall finishes are complete.
Made-to-order & order changes
