Katachi Vase, Medio

The Katachi Vase, Medio by 101 Copenhagen takes its name from the Japanese word katachi – “shape” – and explores how surface, light and shadow interact on a sculptural object. The uneven surface creates small shadow lines that emphasise the organic silhouette, giving the vase a calm, architectural presence in any space.

In the Medio size, Katachi is perfectly balanced: large enough to make a statement on a dining table or console, but compact enough for window sills, sideboards and shelves in Dutch and Turkish homes. You can style it with branches, seasonal flowers or simply let it stand as a sculptural object.

Two material expressions
High Glaze Birch – a ceramic version with a high-gloss glaze. The surface reflects its surroundings like a soft mirror, enhancing the play of light and texture. The glossy finish contrasts beautifully with the raw, irregular shape, so the vase feels both refined and sculptural.
Clear & Smoked Forestmouth-blown glass versions with an irregular surface that gently distorts and refracts light, casting shifting reflections and soft shadows throughout the day. Clear feels airy and transparent; Smoked Forest adds a deeper, atmospheric mood.

All Katachi Medio vases are waterproof, so they work beautifully for fresh flowers as well as dried arrangements.

Material

High Glaze Birch – ceramic
The High Glaze Birch version is made from ceramic with a high-gloss glaze. The irregular surface creates a cascade of small shadows, while the glossy coating reflects its surroundings, enhancing the play of light and texture. The contrast between the fluid, mirror-like glaze and the organic shape gives a refined sculptural expression. The piece is waterproof, so it can be used for fresh flowers.

Clear & Smoked Forest – mouth-blown glass
The Clear and Smoked Forest versions are made from mouth-blown glass. Each vase has an irregular surface that subtly distorts and refracts light, casting shifting reflections and soft shadows through the day. Clear feels light and transparent, while Smoked Forest offers a deeper, more atmospheric tone. Like the ceramic version, these vases are 100% waterproof and suitable for fresh flowers and water.

Care
– Use a soft, dry cloth for everyday cleaning.
– Avoid household cleaners and products containing acid or harsh chemicals.
– Do not use abrasive sponges or sharp objects on the surface.
– Do not clean in a dishwasher; hand-clean only.
