Katachi Vase, Medio
The Katachi Vase, Medio by 101 Copenhagen takes its name from the Japanese word katachi – “shape” – and explores how surface, light and shadow interact on a sculptural object. The uneven surface creates small shadow lines that emphasise the organic silhouette, giving the vase a calm, architectural presence in any space.
In the Medio size, Katachi is perfectly balanced: large enough to make a statement on a dining table or console, but compact enough for window sills, sideboards and shelves in Dutch and Turkish homes. You can style it with branches, seasonal flowers or simply let it stand as a sculptural object.
Two material expressions
– High Glaze Birch – a ceramic version with a high-gloss glaze. The surface reflects its surroundings like a soft mirror, enhancing the play of light and texture. The glossy finish contrasts beautifully with the raw, irregular shape, so the vase feels both refined and sculptural.
– Clear & Smoked Forest – mouth-blown glass versions with an irregular surface that gently distorts and refracts light, casting shifting reflections and soft shadows throughout the day. Clear feels airy and transparent; Smoked Forest adds a deeper, atmospheric mood.
All Katachi Medio vases are waterproof, so they work beautifully for fresh flowers as well as dried arrangements.
